Wigan Athletic’s latest summer addition Darron Gibson spoke to the club’s official website after penning a short-term deal at the DW Stadium on Thursday.
Gibson, 30, has joined Paul Cook’s side ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship opener with Sheffield Wednesday, having trained with the club and played in our pre-season fixtures against Tranmere Rovers, Chesterfield and Rangers.
The Republic of Ireland international, who has 27 caps to his name, said:
“I am thankful for the opportunity to play for Wigan Athletic and I am determined to repay the manager, chairman and the fans for this chance.
“I have got myself in good condition and can’t wait to get back to playing regular football.”
Latics kick-off their Championship season this weekend and Gibson says the dressing room is excited to get started.
“Training has been at a really good standard throughout pre-season and ultra-competitive,” Gibson added.
“I have played in the Championship and know what a tough league it is but I sense a really hungry squad here, determined to do well for the manager and the fans.”
