  • Massey fired home Latics’ second as Paul Cook’s side hammered the Potters in Staffordshire
  • Massey: “There’s no fear. We have come up and everyone is probably thinking we’re the team everyone wants to have to give a go at, but we know our qualities, we know how good we are.”

Massey on win at Stoke…

A 3-0 win away at Stoke, obviously they’re a good side. A big, strong side and we’ve just come here and implemented our football.

The first 20 minutes we really needed to dig deep, it was difficult, they threw everything at us and I think we showed real good defensive qualities. It might have been a little bit rash at times, but we held in there.

Once we got the first goal there was confidence and everything from the boys and that saw us through.

Massey on facing Stoke…

We knew they hadn’t had the best of starts so we knew their fans would probably get on them if we could do anything and once we got the first goal their fans were getting on their backs a little bit, getting a bit aggy with them and we took that with confidence as we started stroking the ball about nice, which we have done all season. We got the goal from it and kicked on.

Massey on Latics’ no-fear approach…

There’s no fear. Obviously we’ve come up and everyone’s probably thinking we’re the team everyone wants to have to give a go at, but we know our qualities, we know how good we are.

Obviously last season’s gone now but we know how good we were, in the FA Cup run and in the league, that breeds confidence. We’ve come into the Championship, we’re not stupid there are big teams in here with big fanbases but we know if we can play our football we’re a match for anyone.

Massey on his goal…

I’ve been working on it. It just opened up. I was trying to play a pass into Powelly, it got deflected and then I was through on goal.

Once I was in that position I knew to keep confident, keep the ball low, I got it through his legs and in the end and it was nice to get a first goal of the season.

Massey on playing in the Championship…

This is my first crack at the Championship. I’ve played here in bits and pieces with Watford but I don’t really count that. This is my first real crack at it.

People are probably thinking whether I can do it or not as I’ve obviously been in League Two, League One. I’ve stayed confident within myself, the gaffer has shown confidence in me to start me in these games and I just want to repay that.

I got a goal and assist tonight which shows I can do it at this level and now I’ve just got to keep confident and go again.

Massey on Latics’ fans…

They were great tonight. They came out in numbers and were the only ones we could hear all night, so thank you for that.

Now we’ve got another big one at QPR. They’ll be looking for a reaction, so we’ve got to go there and implement our game on them.

It’s not going to be easy but as I say we go into every game trying to win and hopefully we can do that on Saturday as well.
