The attacker, who scored 18 goals in 41 games in all competitions for Rangers last term, had played in all three of their Europa League clashes this season before completing his switch south.
The former Accrington Stanley man has been handed the number 10 shirt at the club, and discusses his move to the DW Stadium on iFollow Latics.
He said: “It’s been a strange day; I woke up this morning to get to Ibrox to get on the coach to play in the game tonight and then next minute I get a phone call and I’m here to do a medical.
“It wasn’t an easy decision to make to be honest because I’ve been playing a lot at Rangers, but I spoke to the manager this morning when I got the call and I felt the best thing was to come here to try and prove myself and get this team up the league.”
The Hull-born star, son of former professional footballer Dean, moved to Ibrox from Stanley two years ago having impressed in the EFL.
“I’ve played against the manager’s teams a few times when I was at Accrington and I know a couple of the backroom staff here, so it was a no-brainer for me.
“I know a couple of the lads too having played against them so it’s a good squad and I’m looking forward to it.”
Windass will be in contention to play this weekend as Latics travel to Villa Park, and he hopes to impress the supporters over the coming months.
“It’s a good first game to come into and hopefully we can get a good result and start my career off here strong.
“I’ll let people judge me for themselves but I’m quite quick and like to score goals and get myself in the team every week and improve.”
