- Connolly determined to kick on in midfield after loan spell with Ipswich Town last season.
Speaking to iFollow Latics after confirmation of his return to Wigan Athletic on loan from Everton, Callum Connolly said he was delighted to be back at the DW Stadium, especially with the opportunity to work with manager Paul Cook and his impressive Latics squad.
"I know a few of the players here already from my time a couple of years ago but the manager was the big impact in me joining, so I’m just looking forward to the season and kicking on.
"This is the first time I’ve met the manager but he seems a down to earth guy and someone I can get along with. He’s a scouser as well so that’ll help too.
"It was a great start for the lads on Saturday, I was watching the game and there was a few new faces but they all fitted in well and everyone looks like they’re enjoying their football and have got a new lease of life which will only stand us in good stead this year."
Callum Connolly on his loan at Ipswich and life in the Championship
"I’ve learnt a lot over the last year or so, I went out to Ipswich which was a tough loan but I thoroughly enjoyed it and played a lot of games as well.
"When you’re playing in midfield and in attacking positions it’s important to chip in with goals and hopefully I can do that this year.
"It’s a very tough league and all teams can beat each other as you saw in the games last weekend as some of the top sides on paper got beat. It’s a mad league to be honest and everyone has got stronger squads now so we’re all looking to kick on."
"On the day it was all just a bit of a blur but when I took a step back and realised what I’d done it was a great day and I just want it to happen again this year."
