Service users of the club’s charity of the season – The Brick – were invited to the Wigan Athletic training centre today for a special Christmas dinner with the players and management team.

Representatives from the charity were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the facility before enjoying a festive lunch with the players.

The aim of this season's partnership with The Brick is to raise £100,000 to buy The Brick Works facility which is a centre that offers training to increase the employment opportunities for unemployed people.

Garry Colsey, service user of The Brick, said: “It’s been an absolutely fantastic day, the players and management team and club staff were so welcoming and were brilliant with us all. It something I’ll never forget.”

More activities are planned with the charity later this week as Samy Morsy, Will Grigg, Dan Burn and Michael Jacobs will be visiting the Community Trust’s Montrose Skills Hub (WN5 9XN) to pack Christmas hampers as part of The Brick’s donation drive.

Staff and volunteers from the charity will be based at Montrose Skills Hub all week (9.30am-5pm) packing more than 150 hampers for families across the borough ahead of the festivities. Donations for the Christmas drive can be taken at both Montrose and the DW Stadium every day this week.

Latics boss Paul Cook said: “Christmas is such a special time of year but we sometimes take the smaller things for granted so it’s been a wonderful day for us as a club and we were delighted to be able to spend time with service users from The Brick.”
