SATURDAY 22 DECEMBER 2018
DW STADIUM
KICK-OFF 3.00PM
It's the final DW Stadium fixture of 2018 this Saturday when Latics host Birmingham City as the Sky Bet Championship hits its half way mark for the season.

Latics will be looking to end their home form for the calendar year on a high, having lost only four games at the DW in 2018, scoring 36 goals in 25 matches, including creating memories with victories over Premier League sides AFC Bournemouth, West Ham United and of course Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Paul Cook's side have lost just twice at home this season and will be hoping to add a victory against Birmingham to their list of triumphs this year.

Wigan Athletic v Birmingham City Head to Head

EARLY TEAM NEWS

Last weekend saw the welcome returns of Gavin Massey (hamstring) and Chey Dunkley (knee) to the 18-man match day squad at Ipswich Town, with the duo expected to feature again against Birmingham City.

Kal Naismith, who was suspended for the trip to Portman Road, is back available following his one-match ban for a red card against Derby County.

Michael Jacobs has continued to step up his recovery from a hamstring problem and is expected to be back within the next two to three weeks, but Latics remain without Nick Powell (hamstring) and Antonee Robinson (ankle), with the latter only set for a February return to fitness and Powell likely to return at the end of January.

BIRMINGHAM CITY

The Blues have suffered their fair share of injury problems in recent weeks, most notably with captain Michael Morrison suffering a hamstring problem in Birmingham's 1-0 defeat at home to Bristol City two weeks ago.

Although Garry Monk's skipper has been training this week, the manager was dealt a similar blow last weekend when Morrison's replacement Marc Roberts was substituted nine minutes into the Blues' 2-2 draw away at Blackburn Rovers with a calf injury.

Wes Harding stepped up in Roberts' place and could continue in defence on Saturday.

Creative midfielder Jota made his return from a groin injury as a second half sub last weekend, but long-term injured players Isaac Vassell (hip) and David Davis (ankle) remain unavailable.
