Team news ahead of Latics' fifth round tie with Manchester City in the Emirates FA Cup.

  • Team news for Wigan Athletic v Manchester City.
  • Devante Cole and James Vaughan cup tied for Paul Cook's Latics.
  • Gabriel Jesus set to be available for a return to Pep Guardiola's City team.

Latics are in full preparation for their toughest challenge of the 2017-18 season so far, with Manchester City next to visit the DW Stadium in the Emirates FA Cup on Monday 19 February, kick off 7.55pm.

Here's a closer look at who's in and who's out for both teams.

Other than long-term injured players Shaun MacDonald and Jordan Flores, Paul Cook has no fresh injury concerns in his squad, however, he will be without captain Samy Morsy, who was booked for the tenth time this season in Latics' 2-0 defeat to Blackpool on Tuesday night and now faces a two-match suspension.

Speaking in a press conference at the DW Stadium on Wednesday morning, Cook said:

"It’s part and parcel of football and there’s nothing we can do about it. I think Samy’s been trying to manage himself over the past couple of games, and sometimes when you take that competitive edge away from players they probably don’t play as well as they can. Samy’ll serve a two-game ban now and that’s the rules so it’ll give someone else a chance to play in the game."

Devante Cole will have to wait for his Latics debut, with any hopes of appearing against his former club dashed due to his involvement in the FA Cup for Fleetwood Town earlier this season, whilst fellow striker James Vaughan is similarly cup-tied after featuring for Sunderland. Defender Donervon Daniels is Latics' third star unavailable for City, having played for Rochdale in the competition during his loan spell at the Crown Oil Arena.

Cook added:

"The team will take shape over the next few days and what will be will be. We’re in a good position in the league and are in the fifth round of the FA Cup, so as things stand now we’re having a great season.

"Everything’s going well and there’s nothing for anyone at our club to feel down about. James Vaughan, Donervon Daniels and Devante Cole are cup-tied but apart from that we’ve got a fully fit squad to pick from."

Latics' squad from the previous round against West Ham United was as follows:

Walton, Elder (James 86), Dunkley, Byrne, Burn, Morsy, Power, Jacobs, Powell, Grigg (Roberts 88), Massey (Colclough 76)
Unused subs: Jones, Bruce, Perkins, Fulton

Following their 4-0 thrashing of FC Basel in Switzerland on Tuesday evening, Manchester City look at full strength ahead of their visit to the DW Stadium, with Leroy Sane returning action in the Champions League following his injury in the previous round against Cardiff City.

Pep Guardiola could also hand a return to Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian forward has been missing since December, but City boss Guardiola is quoted in the Evening Standard as saying, "now, except Mendy, we have all of our players to use in all competitions".

[Benjamin] Mendy himself is "not far off linking up with the squad", but Monday will be too early for the Frenchman, who has been missing since September with anterior cruciate ligament damage.

City's line-up in their fourth round victory over Cardiff was:

Bravo, Walker, Danilo, Kompany, Otamendi, Gundogan, De Bruyne, Sane (Aguero 45), B.Silva (Diaz 89), Fernandinho, Sterling
Unused subs: Ederson, Stones, Mangala, Adarabioyo, Zinchenko
