Wigan Athletic Academy duo Jensen Weir and Joe Gelhardt starred on international duty for Scotland and England's Under 16s over the past five days, culminating in the pair going head-to-head on Monday afternoon at St. George's Park.
Midfielder Weir captained Scotland for 75 minutes, with team mate Gelhardt on target to ensure England a 2-0 victory. The forward, who assisted England's second in a 2-0 win against Spain on Friday, gave his side the lead 30 minutes into today's clash with Scotland when he was hauled down for a penalty, before slamming home the resulting spot kick.
Weir featured three times during the International Development Tournament, captaining Scotland in a 2-1 defeat to Spain, before coming on as a substitute half an hour into 3-3 draw with Denmark. The 16-year-old scored in the resulting penalty shootout, only for Scotland to fall to a 5-4 defeat.
Gelhardt was an unused substitute in England's first match, a 2-0 win against Denmark, before his appearance against Spain, a game in which he almost grabbed a goal for himself after setting up his country's second goal.
