Wigan Athletic Ladies inflicted a first league defeat of the season on Stockport County as they deservedly beat the top of the table outfit on Sunday.
Latics dominated for large parts against a side who were unbeaten heading into this game, and took the lead early on when Michelle Hunt headed the ball into Louise Ainscow’s path to slot calmly into the bottom corner.
The advantage was extended midway through the first period when Ainscow scored her second of the game with another fine finish.
Megan Hornby went close after the break but was denied in the area, however Ash Taylor made no mistake later in the half as she fired low past the keeper.
The visitors rallied and pulled one back on 80 minutes as they bundled the ball home from a corner before ensuring a nail-biting finish with another goal moments from time but Latics held on for a memorable win.
