LOAN REPORT: STUBBS AND BURKE FEATURE AS AFC FYLDE CONTINUE WITH PLAY-OFF PUSH

4 February 2018

Latics duo continue to push for National League promotion after 2-2 draw with Eastleigh.

  • The latest loan update from Wigan Athletic players in the EFL and National League.
  • Luke Burke and Sam Stubbs feature in AFC Fylde's 2-2 draw with Eastleigh.
  • Terell Thomas and Owen Evans unable to stop Sutton United's FA Trophy exit.

Four of Wigan Athletic's players featured for their loan clubs on Saturday, with progress for AFC Fylde in the National League, but a cup upset for Sutton United in the FA Trophy.

LUKE BURKE AND SAM STUBBS

AFC Fylde continue to battle away for a spot in the National League play-offs, with a 2-2 draw at home to Eastleigh on Saturday keeping them one point behind seventh place Bromley.

Luke Burke and Sam Stubbs both featured at Mill Farm, with the latter replaced after 75 minutes.

Ryan Broom had the visitors ahead twice either side of a Zaine Francis-Angol goal, before substitute Henry Jones equalised with five minutes remaining to earn the Coaters their 49th point of the season.

OWEN EVANS AND TERELL THOMAS

Sutton United's FA Trophy dream was ended this weekend, with goalkeeper Owen Evans and centre back Terell Thomas unable to prevent a 3-1 defeat to Brackley Town.

The National League side were shocked by their National League North opposition who progress thanks to goals from Lee Ndlovu, Aaron Williams and James Armson.

Latics' duo played the full 90 minutes, with their attention now focused solely on promotion to the EFL. Sutton sit fifth in the National League, four points behind leaders Wrexham with two games in hand.

ELSEWHERE

Josh Laurent, Andy Kellett and Callum Lang all sat out their respective club's games this weekend.

Laurent's Bury drew 1-1 at home to Blackpool and remain bottom of Sky Bet League One, 12 points from safety.

Kellett's Chesterfield are also deeply embroiled in a relegation battle in League Two, with the Spireites slipping into the bottom two on Saturday after a 2-1 home defeat to Crawley Town.

Morecambe and Lang sit four points above Kellett's Chesterfield after a 0-0 draw away at Port Vale.
