WATCH: LEAM RICHARDSON ON LATICS' WIN OVER ROCHDALE

24 February 2018

Latics' assistant manager delighted to register three points as Paul Cook's side maintained Sky Bet League One promotion push.

  • WATCH: Assistant manager Leam Richardson on win over Rochdale
  • Richardson discusses Michael Jacobs, team changes and Sky Bet League One promotion battle
  • Richardson: "We need to mark the wins off and treat every single game on its merit and that’s what we’ll try and do."

LR on today’s win

“The main thing about today was that we won. The game wasn’t pretty and wasn’t one for the neutrals like on Monday night, but I enjoy watching Rochdale play and think Keith Hill is a top class manager. They’ve got no fear and have a lot of young lads who can play and then they’ve got a couple of lads with experience too, so we had to dig in and show a scruffy side to our game."

LR on seven changes to the team

“It’s great for the squad’s point of view but we’ll turn our focus to Tuesday night now against Bristol Rovers because that’ll be another good game. It’s about being consistent this time of year, getting our habits right and staying true to what you’re trying to do. We need to mark the wins off and treat every single game on its merit and that’s what we’ll try and do."

LR on Michael Jacobs

“Michael started the season so strongly and people want to see that every week, but to get to those levels is tough. It’s not for the lack of work or lack of trying though because he’s a good player and like all the other lads in the dressing room, works hard Monday to Friday, and we’ve seen that all season because they don’t leave much out there to be fair to them."

LR on the squad’s quality

“The lads have been chomping to play and the lads who played today deserved an opportunity to play. It’ll only make our group stronger as we turn our attention to Tuesday and Sunday."

LR on the battle for promotion

“There’s good teams in this league and Rotherham are on a great run. Everyone in and around us will pick up their points but it’s important we concentrate on ourselves and we won’t look too far ahead because that was a tough game today."
