Wigan Athletic Ladies 0-2 Burnley Girls & Ladies F.C.
Despite dominating proceedings, particularly in the second half, Wigan Athletic Ladies fell to a home reverse against Burnley Girls & Ladies F.C. on Sunday.
Latics headed into the game looking to respond to last week’s defeat to Accrington, but it was the visitors who enjoyed the early play, with Jess Linford pulling off a couple of excellent saves.
A bizarre own goal gave the visitors the lead on the half hour mark however Latics had chances to level before the break but failed to convert.
The home side were on top after the interval and continued to have opportunities, and were particularly threatening from set-pieces but Burnley held firm.
With time running out and Latics chasing an equaliser, the visitors doubled their advantage minutes from the end as they netted from a corner.
The Development team progressed to the semi-final of the cup with a narrow 1-0 win against Accrington Stanley Community Trust Ladies.
