- Paul Cook: “It has been a difficult year for Shaun but his positivity makes him such a popular lad about the place and we are looking forward to getting him back in full training.”
Wigan Athletic midfielder Shaun MacDonald has signed a one-year contract extension at the DW Stadium, which will see him stay with the club until at least the summer of 2019.
MacDonald, 29, made 41 appearances in all competitions last season for Latics and finished second in the club’s Player of the Season vote.
The Wales international’s 2016-17 campaign was brought to a premature end when he suffered a long-term injury, breaking his leg at Reading in April, with his initial return to action coming as an unused substitute in Latics’ 2-2 draw at his former AFC Bournemouth in the Emirates FA Cup earlier this month.
A further setback in a training match has delayed MacDonald’s long-awaited return, but he looks set to be back involved in full training this month.
Speaking about MacDonald, Paul Cook said:
“It has been a difficult year for Shaun but his positivity makes him such a popular lad about the place and we are looking forward to getting him back in full training.”
