- Dunkley: "We pride ourselves on clean sheets"
Wigan Athletic defender Chey Dunkley was proud of Latics' performance as they strengthened their promotion bid with a 1-0 win at Northampton Town on New Year's Day.
Recording a sixth consecutive clean sheet in the process, Latics started 2018 in fine style and Dunkley was at the heart of all what was good about the performance from Paul Cook's side.
"We pride ourselves on clean sheets," Dunkley said afterwards. "It's not just the back five, but the team works hard offensively and defensively.
"It is always nice as part of the back five to get a clean sheet and we are over the moon to get the result.
"Me and Dan are in their to defend whether it for long or short periods and today was one of those games where we had to defend more, especially at the end of the game, but that's why you need to make sure you keep your concentration.
"We are delighted to start the year well and get a win.
"We have players in the team that can produce that one minute of quality and Nick [Powell] gets his fair share of goals.
"We were happy to get the goal, we thought we'd get a few more - I was unlucky not to myself - but we are just delighted to get the result.
Dunkley recorded his 100th career league appearance in the win at Sixfields, an achievement he is proud of but keen to build on.
"I hope I can strive on, keep playing well, I didn't know it was my 100th league appearance but it is certainly a nice way to get it," he continued.
"It has been good, I am always learning, there is always room to improve and I feel like I am under management where I can really kick on and do well.
"I have to make sure I listen to players around me, not just the staff, because we have experienced players that can help me improve my game."
