Latics prepare for their final pre-season friendly of the summer as Paul Cook takes his side to Ibrox Stadium for the first time in the club's history.

Latics will mark another piece of club history this Sunday when they travel up to Ibrox Stadium to take on Steven Gerrard's Rangers FC for the very first time.

Paul Cook leads his men to Scotland off the back of a 1-1 draw against Chesterfield FC and a 2-1 victory against Tranmere Rovers, with Gerrard's Gers fresh off the back of a 1-0 Europa League qualifying win against Croatian side NK Osijek.

Latics will be looking to see out pre-season with a victory leading into the opening day of the Sky Bet Championship season at the DW Stadium against Sheffield Wednesday.

Rangers FC - The Gers are yet to conceded a goal in pre-season and Europa League fixtures this summer, with a 6-0 victory over Bury at Ibrox Stadium marking Gerrard's first game in charge at the start of the month, before seeing off Macedonian side FC Shkupi in Europa League qualifying 2-0 on aggregate and opening their second qualifying round account with a 1-0 win against NK Osijek.

Latics - Cook's men have featured in a number of pre-season fitness matches against Crewe Alexandra, Blackpool, Liverpool and Gibraltar United, alongside a 2-1 friendly victory against Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park and a 1-1 draw against Chesterfield FC on Wednesday for Tommy Lee's testimonial, with striker Will Grigg netting in both games.

Rangers FC - Gerrard has been busy at his new home, using his ties to former club Liverpool to bring in full back Jon Flanagan on a permanent deal and exciting youngsters Ovie Ejaria and Ryan Kent on loan. Conor Goldson and Jamie Murphy have arrived from Brighton & Hove Albion, Allan McGregor has returned from Hull City, Scott Arfield has returned to Scotland from Burnley and Lassana Coulibaly and Umar Sadiq have arrived on loan from Angers and Roma respectively. Croatian international defender Nikola Katic also signed up at Ibrox on a four-year-deal from Slaven Belupo.

Latics - Supporters yet to take in any of our pre-season fixtures could get the chance to see summer recruits Leo Da Silva Lopes (Peterborough United), Reece James (on loan from Chelsea) and Rangers FC academy graduate Kal Naismith, as well as a welcome return for Christian Walton who featured for the first time against Chesterfield FC following his agreement to join Latics on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion for a second year.

Callum McManaman became Latics' fifth signing of the summer when he returned to the club following a three-year spell away.

Latics have faced 22 different Scottish teams since our first meeting with opposition north of the border when St Mirren visited Springfield Park on 21 April 1952, a match which had Latics 2-1 up before the game was abandoned.

Since that day, Latics have amassed 12 victories, seven draws and suffered 11 defeats to Scottish clubs, with the most recent meeting, a 1-0 defeat to Dundee in the pre-season of 2015-16.

Latics have faced clubs such as; Airdrie, Arbroath, Ayr United, Clyde, Dumbarton, Dundee, Dundee United, Dunfermline, East Fife, Hamilton Academical, Hearts, Hibernian, Kilmarnock, Livingston, Montrose, Partick Thistle, Queen of the South, Raith Rovers, St Johnstone, St Mirren, Stirling Albion and Stranraer.
