The Alex's Chris Porter scored the game's only goal, with Devante Cole testing the visiting goalkeeper on a number of occasions early on, before Jamie Walker chipped the keeper and struck the cross bar in the second half.
Latics' behind-closed-doors friendly follows a week and a half of work back at the Training Centre, as well as a number of sessions at Jennings Gym and XFit Chorley as the players continue to prepare for the 2018-19 Sky Bet Championship season.
Pre-season fixtures begin on Saturday 14 July with a trip to Prenton Park to face Tranmere Rovers, before a Latics XI travel to Chesterfield's Proact Stadium to take part in goalkeeper Tommy Lee's testimonial. A trip north of the border to Ibrox Stadium will see Latics play their final warm up fixture against Steven Gerrard's Rangers FC on Sunday 29 July ahead of the first game of the season against Sheffield Wednesday at the DW Stadium on Saturday 4 August.
