It was a proud afternoon for Wigan Athletic and Samy Morsy as our captain made his FIFA World Cup debut for the Egypt national team against Uruguay in the Pharaohs' opening Group A match against Uruguay.
Morsy, who skippered Latics to the Sky Bet League One title in 2017-18 with two goals in 41 league appearances, was a 50th minute substitute for Egypt in place of Tarek Hamed.
Egypt were defeated late on after Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez headed in from a free kick to seal a 1-0 victory for Uruguay.
