Our countdown to #FixtureReleaseDay on Thursday 21 June continues, with our 12th instalment of Three of a Kind focusing on previous clashes with Millwall.

Wigan Athletic 1 Millwall 0 - Wednesday 17 May 2000

Latics needed a hero to send them to Wembley Stadium and one step closer to promotion and he rose his head in the form of Darren Sheridan! The midfielder's free kick shortly after the hour mark settled our Division Two Play-Off semi final against Millwall in May 2000 to earn a spot in the final against Gillingham.

We ultimately lost the final 3-2 to the Gills, but this moment at the JJB Stadium helped produce the celebration of the season in terms of noise!

Sheridan's powerfully struck free kick was drilled low and deflected beyond Tony Warner, the crucial goal in a 1-0 aggregate victory!

Latics: Stillie, McGibbon, Balmer, Sharp, De Zeeuw, Green, Sheridan, Redfearn, Kilford, Haworth, Liddell
Subs: Carroll, Bradshaw, Griffiths, Peron, Nicholls

Millwall: Warner, Ryan (Shaw 77), Tuttle, Nethercott, Neill (Kinet 65), Lawrence, Ifil, Livermore, Harris, Cahill, Moody
Subs: Spink, Dolan, Bull

Millwall 0 Wigan Athletic 2 - Tuesday 10 August 2004

Lee McCulloch and Jason Roberts combined to earn Latics their first victory of the ultimately successful 2004-05 promotion winning campaign, with the duo on target to earn us a rare win away at Millwall.

McCulloch opened the scoring with his second in as many matches in the 51st minute, before Roberts rounded off the win with 15 minutes to play in Latics' second of what turned out to be a 17-match unbeaten streak at the start of the season.

Millwall: Stack, Lawrence, Dunne, Ward, Livermore, Simpson (Wise 53), Morris, Elliott (McCammon 53), Dichio, Sweeney, Moore (Harris 53)
Subs: Marshall, Cogan

Latics: Filan, Wright, McCulloch, Breckin, Jackson, Baines, Bullard, Teale (Eaden 79), Frandsen, Roberts, Ellington
Subs: Salisbury, Mitchell, Mahon, Graham

Wigan Athletic 2 Millwall 0 - Saturday 12 March 2005

One of seven victories from eight matches in 2005 which carved Latics route towards the Premier League, our 2-0 victory over Millwall at the JJB Stadium was an almost carbon copy of the reverse fixture at the Den back in August.

Nathan Ellington took the place of Lee McCulloch as opening scorer, converting a typically calm penalty in the 58th minute following a foul on Gary Teale.

Strike partner Jason Roberts doubled the lead with eight minutes remaining, bullying his way from the half way to beat off two challenges, before clipping the ball over Andy Marshall with ease.

Latics won four, drew three and lost just twice between Millwall and the end of the season, ensuring a spot in the promise land of the top flight was secured come the beginning of May.

Latics: Filan, Eaden, Wright, McCulloch, Breckin, Baines, Bullard, Teale, Kavanagh, Roberts (Jarrett 87), Ellington (Graham 87)
Subs: Walsh, Jackson, Johansson

Millwall: Marshall, Robinson, Craig, Lawrence, Ward, Elliott, Morris (Impey 77), Sweeney (Serioux 77), Hayles, Quigley (Peeters 66), Dichio
Subs: Stack, Weston
