- Match Report: Wigan Athletic Ladies 4-1 Accrington Stanley.
- Youngster Flossie Jones made her full debut for the first team.
- Ash Taylor netted a hat-trick while Louise Ainscow also scored.
Wigan Athletic Ladies recorded a convincing win over Accrington Stanley in the North West Women’s Regional Football League on Sunday afternoon.
Latics gave Flossie Jones her first start and the youngster did extremely well, however it was the visitors who took the lead when they netted from a corner after five minutes.
The home side were in control for much of the half despite the scoreline, and deservedly equalised when Emma Lysons’ cross found Louise Ainscow who nipped in front of the keeper to score.
The turnaround was complete on the stroke of half time when Megan Hornby’s deep cross fell Ash Taylor at the back post who side footed an effort past the keeper for her first of the afternoon.
Taylor scored her second after the break as she directed a fantastic strike into the top corner from the edge of the box after Hornby’s initial effort was kept out.
Sam and Grace Vella combined for Latics’ fourth as Grace latched on to a through ball only to see her effort rattle the crossbar and bounce back to Taylor to bundle home for her hat-trick.
