- “We’re under no illusions how difficult it will be.” - Paul Cook.
PC on Will Grigg
He’s had songs about, pies made for him and he’s had an outstanding season to be fair.
We were lucky enough to give him a break on Wednesday (against Bradford City) knowing Vaughan and Cole were suspended on Sunday. He can now make his comeback and lead the line. When you give good strikers chances they score, and Will is one of them.
PC on the Bradford City win
Last minute goals are huge in promotion battles. I thought we were full value for the win and just shaded it. The last minute goal was important to close gap and jump into the automatic promotion places. Going into the weekend, we couldn’t ask for any more.
PC on the incentive of reaching Wembley
It’s an unbelievable incentive for everyone, especially for us being the League One team in the Quarter Final. For me, getting through will be like getting to the final. For our players that is a prize for us for where we are as a club at the moment.
We are under no illusions how difficult it will be. We are not getting ahead of ourselves in any type of thought process. But we are allowed to dream a bit.
We are so close yet so far but we can dream of what if. If we could get to the semi-final it would be an amazing achievement.
PC on Southampton
They are littered with good players. Mark Hughes has an impressive CV as a manager, was a world footballer, Premier League manager and is vastly experienced. He will give them a boost and everyone will want to impress him.
It will be a very difficult game but we are prepared. It’s a game we want to enjoy and we want to say at the end of the game that we have done ourselves justice. We are fully aware of what we’re going to engage in. People are saying the game is a 50/50, but I don’t see it as that.
PC on the Latics’ recent FA Cup history
For me, it’s about the next game in the Quarter Final of the FA Cup and we’d know the sense of achievement around the town if we can get there. It Is in our history and hopefully we as a team could put a mark down that people might remember us for.
PC on team news
Nick (Powell) won’t make the tie, he’s struggling with his hamstring. Devante Cole, James Vaughan and Donovan Daniels are cup-tied. We have no problems with making changes in the FA Cup from the Bournemouth and Fylde games. Gary Roberts and David Perkins came in for the Man City game and we had no problems with that.
PC on preparation for Southampton
In football it’s about your habit, we do our same stuff on a daily basis. You prepare for every team the same way in respecting them, studying and analysing them.
If you take the Man City game, its more about how you stop them rather than how you hurt them. But now it’s about both. We look at Southampton the same as everyone.
