  • Roberts: "It was a bit of a setback today but we have had a good season up to now and hopefully we can kick on."

Wigan Athletic forward Gary Roberts spoke to iFollow Latics on Saturday afternoon after he came off the bench to earn Latics a point against Scunthorpe United.

Roberts scored his first goal for the club four minutes after coming on to level the score at 3-3 at the DW Stadium.

Reflecting post-match, he said:

"We had two strikers on the pitch so the manager wanted me on the left side of the pitch to double up with Crackers and try and get some balls into the box for Vaughany who is good in the air and Griggy, who will sniff a goal out," Vaughan explained.

"Thankfully I put some good crosses in and nicked a goal."

Disappointed not to get his first goal in a win, Roberts added:

"We’re only frustrated with ourselves; in our home games we shouldn’t be conceding three goals and we should be winning.

"This league is tough and today we saw the best of Scunthorpe; fair play they deserved the point and we dust ourselves and go again for another tricky one on Wednesday against Bradford City.

"It was a terrible time to concede the goals; it is the worst time to concede when you are looking to take control of the game.

"It was a bit of a setback today but we have had a good season up to now and hopefully we can kick on."

Ivan Toney got Scunthorpe's third goal at the DW, scoring on his return to the Stadium having been on loan here in the first-half of the campaign.

"Ivan is a good player; he did well for us when he was here," Roberts continued. "It’s always the way against a former club. He’s a good lad, when he was here he was a big part of the dressing room and it’s good to see him doing well for Scunthorpe, just not today!"
