- Jacobs delighted with Latics' defensive unit for a 21st Sky Bet League One clean sheet.
Speaking to iFollow Latics after his side's 3-0 victory over Walsall in Sky Bet League One, Michael Jacobs shared his thoughts on yet another clean sheet, and his 50th career goal.
"We always knew it was going to be a tough test coming to Walsall, especially after the disappointment from the Southampton game, which I thought we played well in.
"We didn't get through, so it was important for us to bounce back, keep our form going in the league and stay up there with the top two.
"The win sets down a marker. We try and win every game, every test we come up against we want to succeed.
"The clean sheet was important for us because that's what we aim for as a group."
"It was a great vocal following again, the supporters are excellent everywhere we go, so it was important that we put on a performance for them.
"To go in at half time with a 3-0 lead shows how good our first half performance was. We saw the game out well in the second half."
On his own performance, Jacobs added:
"As a forward player you've always got to contribute by creating and scoring goals. I've always been honest with myself and I know I had a spell of 10 to 12 games when I didn't score.
"It did play on my mind a little bit, but I want to help the lads out because we're all in it together.
"When Powelly gets the ball you never really know what he's going to do. He's got fantastic ability.
"I gave him a shout and he saw me. The pass was fantastic, all I had to do was tap it in at the back post. Powelly's all round performance was excellent.
"I had a chance to score a second and our fourth, but it wasn't great was it? I had Nath shouting on my right and I've had some stick for it, so I know it must have been bad."
