Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Christian Walton secured the Sky Bet League One Golden Glove on Saturday afternoon after recording his 19th clean sheet of the season in just 31 Sky Bet League One games.
Walton impressed throughout his loan spell from Brighton & Hove Albion and produced a number of special performances in the league as well as in the Emirates FA Cup run which saw some of the most sublime saves we have seen from a Latics stopper in recent years.
Reflecting on the season and his award, Walton said:
“It has been an incredible season. It’s been a massive collective effort but to get the Golden Glove is a proud moment.
“To get the injury early in the campaign was disappointing but Jamie Jones was incredible in my absence and has pushed me all season to look after the number one shirt.
“I’d also like to add special praise to Nick Colgan, our goalkeeping coach, who has been superb all season and this award is as much for him as it is for me.”
