Wigan Athletic right back Nathan Byrne has scooped both the Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards for the 2017-18 season, with both being presented to him at Sunday’s Promotion Party in the Park.

Byrne has played 51 times in all competitions and, whilst he faced stiff competition in both votes from the two captains Samy Morsy and Dan Burn, his colleagues and fans agreed that the 25-year-old was fully deserving of his award.

Speaking at the Promotion Party in the Park on Sunday, Byrne said:

“Thanks so much to the fans and the players for voting for me, it means a lot.

“It has been an unbelievable season in league and cup and I have loved being a part of this team.”

Full photo galleries and video content from Sunday’s Promotion Party in the Park will be published on the club’s website over the course of the next week.
