The latest fitness and injury news from both camps ahead of Latics' return to action against Reading.
- Sky Bet Championship Team News: Latics v Reading.
- Will Grigg could be involved on his return from a hamstring injury.
- Antonee Robinson, Gavin Massey, Chey Dunkley and Michael Jacobs remain sidelined.
Speaking to iFollow Latics at the Wigan Athletic Training Centre in Euxton on Friday morning, Paul Cook said we could see the return of Will Grigg from a hamstring injury that has kept him out since the October international fixtures.
Chey Dunkley, Gavin Massey and Michael Jacobs all remain sidelined.
"We're not going to rush anyone back," Cook began.
"Will Grigg's been training this week and probably will be involved this weekend, but nobody else is close to fitness."
Antonee Robinson is the latest blow for Latics having injured his ankle on international duty with USA, leaving him out for close to four weeks, but Cook insists he won't be using absences as excuses.
"We can't let injuries become an excuse because every team has good players missing. Injuries and suspensions are all part of the game, we're just feeling it more this season because we went so long last season without many at all.
"This is a tough league, physically demanding and tiring, but if I don't have to, I won't be chopping and changing."
Will Grigg and Gavin Massey both provided updates on their fitness status on this week's episode of Latics Listen. Catch their words below.
As reported on Football.London, Mo Barrow is set to miss the Royals' trip to the DW Stadium on Saturday after missing training this week with illness, meaning John Swift could be recalled in midfield.
Vito Mannone, Paul McShane, Dave Edwards and Saeid Ezatolahi are all likely to continue to be missing, whilst Callum Harriott, Adrian Popa and Pelle Clement are expected for Reading's Under 23s on Friday night against Fulham.
