An emphatic 4-0 victory over Blackpool booked Latics a place in the Lancashire FA Youth Cup final on Tuesday afternoon, with leading goal scorer Charlie Jolley on target twice either side of a well-taken Kyle Joseph finish, before England youth international Jensen Weir finished the rout off with a stylish lob from outside the area.

The victory at Christopher Park extends Latics' unbeaten start to the 2018/19 campaign to 16 matches in all competitions, and sets up a final four clash at home to Rochdale at a date to be confirmed.

Jolley got the ball rolling inside nine minutes when he picked up on a poor back pass on the right side, stealing the ball from the keeper's toe to round him and finish from an almost impossible angle on the by-line.

Strike partner and leading goal scorer Joseph doubled the lead with a clever finish 10 minutes from the interval. Full back Luke Robinson charged forward up the inside left, slipped the ball in behind for Divin Baningime who in turn found Joseph with his cut back for a left footed finish across the scrambling goalkeeper for his 17th goal in all competitions this season.

Jolley killed the game off with his second 12 minutes from time, leaping highest to head home from a corner for his 13 goal of the campaign, but it was midfielder Weir who stole the show for the most stylish goal of the game.

With four minutes left on the clock and a place in the semi-final a formality, Weir lobbed the Blackpool keeper from outside of the area through a delightful half volley with the outside of his right footb, cutting across the ball to spin his effort over the Tangerines' stopper's head.

The victory sets Latics up well for the second of two games against Blackpool coming up this Saturday when both teams return to EFL Youth Alliance action.
