WIGAN ATHLETIC V FLEETWOOD TOWN
EFL YOUTH ALLIANCE
CHRISTOPHER PARK
KICK-OFF 11.00AM

Latics' Under 18s entertain tenth placed Fleetwood Town on Saturday in game-week eleven of the EFL Youth Alliance.

Latics arrive off the back of an impressive 2-0 away victory over Rochdale, winning their second game in a matter of days to extend their lead at the top of the table.

A pin-point free-kick from Luke Robinson and the second from his Scotland youth international team-mate Kyle Joseph ensured the win, with Joseph scoring his fourth in two games following his hat-trick against Morecambe in the 5-0 Youth Alliance Cup win the previous Tuesday.

The clubs last met in April, with Latics running out 4-0 winners, courtesy of goals from Victor Maffeo, Mwiya Malumo, Joe Downey and Charlie Jolley.

The win ensured Latics would go five points clear of second-placed Rochdale in the EFL Youth Alliance table.

The fixture before this was in October 2017 and despite going behind, Latics ran out 2-1 winners after Victor Maffeo’s 95th minute winner extended the visitors’ winning run to five consecutive games.

Fleetwood Town will be hoping to build on their impressive form of late, drawing 1-1 at home to Morecambe last time out, before beating Macclesfield 3-2. The Cod Army currently sit tenth in the Northwest Youth Alliance table, just two points behind Tranmere Rovers in sixth.

With 13 goals in their last four games, Latics will be hoping to continue their clinical form, with forwards Joseph and Jolley sharing 23 goals between them so far this season.

The hosts have also taken the lead in each of their last three home games, conceding two goals and scoring eight.

Academy manager, Gregor Rioch, will be hoping to have England youth international, Joe Gelhardt, available following his absence last weekend. Defenders Ollie Broe is making good progress with his setback and Maffeo is also close to returning to action.
