It tends to be a Happy Halloween for Latics supporters, with five wins from eight matches on 31 October down the years, including a Nightmare on Elland Road for Leeds United in 2004, a late fright for Swindon Town at the DW Stadium in 2015 and a horror show for York City at Springfield Park in 1998.

Here's a closer look as we pick the bones of some of our finest matches on this day...

FRIGHT NIGHT!

Francisco Junior celebration v Swindon Town

Francisco Junior celebrates his injury time winner.

Latics made it nine games unbeaten in Sky Bet League One on this day in 2015, but they left it late at the DW Stadium against Swindon Town, with Everton loanee Francisco Junior prodding the ball home in the final minute of stoppage time to seal a 1-0 victory.

NIGHTMARE ON ELLAND ROAD

Jimmy Bullard goal v Leeds United

Jimmy Bullard whips Latics' second goal beyond Neil Sullivan.

A couple of screamers from Alan Mahon and Jimmy Bullard sent a chill down the home crowd at Elland Road in 2004, as 4,000 Latics fan saw their side win 2-0 against Leeds United.

YORKY HORROR SHOW

Latics struck five nails in York City's coffin on this day in 1998.

Simon Haworth and Andy Liddell scored their first of many Latics goals on the afternoon at Springfield Park, combining for the third, fourt and fifth goals after an own goal and Colin Greenall's header had the hosts ahead.

Haworth's double came either side of a stunning Liddell strike in the second half.

ROTTEN ROYALS

Allen Tankard

Allen Tankard scored Latics' third from the penalty spot.

You have to go back a further nine years to 1989 for the next Latics victory on Halloween, with Mark Hilditch, Tony Ward and Allen Tankard all on target in a 3-1 victory against Reading at Springfield Park.

THREE-LER

Paul Cook

Paul Cook provided the assist for Bobby Campbell.

A game of stunning goals, quite simply some of the best technique you'll see in front of goal, as Latics won 3-0 against Rotherham United at Springfield Park on this day in 1987.

Paul Jewell's jaw-dropping effort from distance opened the scoring in the first half, before Paul Cook's free kick saw Bobby Campbell ghost in for a near post header. The late, great Campbell added a sprinkle of magic to thump home the third.
