Latics' international involvement continued on Thursday afternoon and the early hours of Friday morning, with both first team full backs, Reece James and Antonee Robinson, featuring in differing results.

Chelsea loanee James kicked off the action with a stellar performance in a 2-1 win for England's U20s against Italy at AFC Fylde's Mill Farm, with the 18-year-old firing the first warning shot when his free kick struck the cross bar early in the game.

Arsenal duo Edward Nketiah and Joe Willock scored first half goals, but England were made to work for their win after Davide Fratessi's second half strike.

England held out for the win in front of a 3,817 strong crowd, setting themselves up nicely for Monday's clash with Czech Republic.

Across the Atlantic in Tampa, Robinson and USA suffered a 4-2 defeat against Colombia, despite taking a 2-1 lead shortly after half time.

The Everton loanee featured for 76 minutes and was replaced by Ben Sweat shortly after the visitors turned the score line around to 3-2 through Falcao.

James Rodriguez gave Colombia the lead in the first half, before goals from Kellyn Acosta and Bobby Wood has USA 2-1 up. Carlos Bacca equalised, Falcao made it 3-2 and substitute Miguel Borja extended the lead to 4-2 to seal the win.

Next up for Dave Sarachan's side is a second clash with South American opposition when they face Peru on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, U18 duo Kyle Joseph and Luke Robinson made their Scotland U18 debuts in a 1-1 draw against Uzbekistan on Wednesday.

Will Grigg (Northern Ireland), Samy Morsy (Egypt), Joe Gelhardt & Jensen Weir (England U17), Kyle Joseph & Luke Robinson (Scotland U18) and Owen Evans (Wales U21) are all set for action today (Friday).
