Wigan Athletic U18s will travel to Tranmere Rovers this Saturday in the hope of maintaining their unbeaten start to the campaign.
Latics come off the back of a 5-0 victory against Accrington Stanley last time out, courtesy of a brace each from forwards Kyle Joseph and Charlie Jolley. The latter, who returned from an ankle injury, came on as a substitute to net his sixth and seventh goals of the season in the victory.
Latics will be hoping for a repeat of the last time out when they progressed to the area semi-final of the EFL Youth Alliance Cup after beating Tranmere Rovers 3-1. First-half goals from Joe Gelhardt and Jolley secured victory for the Latics and would eventually go on to face local rivals Preston North End in the semi-final.
The clubs last met in the Youth Alliance in November 2017. Emeka Obi and Charlie Jolley helped Latics produce a spirited comeback, winning their eighth consecutive game in all competitions.
Hosts, Tranmere Rovers, sit ninth in the North West Division, winning only two of their opening seven matches played.
Latics will be bolstered by the return of their four international stars who all featured for their respective nations this week. Joe Gelhardt (who scored three goals for England U17s), Jensen Weir (England), Luke Robinson (Scotland) and Kyle Joseph (Scotland).
Gregor Rioch still has four absentees, with forward James Berry close to completing his comeback after recovering from an injury. However, defenders Victor Maffeo and Louis Isherwood and midfielder Joe McWilliam remain side-lined.
