Wigan Athletic forward Josh Windass was delighted to grab the game’s only goal as his decisive strike earned Latics a 1-0 win against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking post-match with iFollow Latics, Windass said:
“It was enjoyable; I thought the lads behind me were superb today. Powelly, Gary Roberts, Nathan Byrne and the midfield made it a thoroughly enjoyable performance and we deserved the win.
“The goal was something we are not really renowned for with the route one but I knew Nick would win the flick on and I gambled and luckily, I got there.
“I probably should have scored in the first-half from Powelly’s pass, but we seem to have a nice little relationship on the pitch and hopefully we can keep that going.”
Latics were forced into changes for the clash with the Sky Bet Championship’s leading scorers and Windass was full of praise for returnee Gary Roberts in particular.
“We have excellent players in all positions and you have to keep the shirt when you’re in it because it is hard to get your place if you’re not in it, because we have good players, and the gaffer has said if you get chance, you have to keep it and hopefully we have done that,” Windass explained.
“I thought Gary [Roberts] was outstanding; probably the best player on the pitch and it is testament to him after not playing for a long time. Coming in and playing as strong as he did for 89 minutes was a testament to his professionalism and the way he trains and I am happy for him today.”
