Wigan Youth Zone – one of Wigan Athletic’s official charities - will host their ‘Big Day Out’ at the DW Stadium on Saturday to help increase awareness of the Youth Zone and raise vital funds.
The event, which will coincide with the club’s home fixture against West Bromwich Albion, aims to showcase the amazing opportunities available at Wigan Youth Zone, with the charity hosting various activities in the Family Zone outside the South Stand from 1.30pm.
Wigan Youth Zone opened in 2013 thanks to significant investment from Latics Owner and Life President, Mr Whelan, and as part of their ‘Big Day Out’ young leaders and volunteers will be bringing a taste of Wigan Youth Zone to the DW Stadium, with activities such as trampoline fitness, circus skills, mini tennis courts, street dance, arts and crafts and more on offer.
In addition, there will be live performances from members of Wigan Youth Zone, including the cheerleading squad, while Jaguar Jeff, their brand-new mascot, will be making a special appearance!
The ‘Big Day Out’ will be another example of the collaborative work between Wigan Youth Zone and the football club, with Wigan Athletic Community Trust delivering sports sessions at the facility’s four floodlit multi-use pitches on a weekly basis, as well as supporting various other events.
Volunteers from Wigan Youth Zone will also be bucket collecting around the ground to raise money for the facility, which costs over £1.7 million to run each year.
