Jamie Walker started life with Peterborough United in style as he scored for the Posh in a 3-3 draw at MK Dons in the Checkatrade Trophy.
Walker came off the bench at half-time and fired home on 87 minutes before the clash went to a penalty shootout, which MK Dons won 6-5, though the Scot did convert his penalty.
Walker will hope to start on Saturday when Steve Evans' side travel to Southend United in Sky Bet League One.
After making his EFL debut on Saturday for Morecambe, Joe Piggott made his first competitive start in English football as the Shrimps travelled to Carlisle United in the Checkatrade Trophy.
Piggott, 19, scored for Jim Bentley's side after just 24 minutes, though they were on the wrong side of a 3-2 scoreline.
The young striker will hope to be involved when Morecambe host Swindon Town in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday.
Devante Cole started for Burton Albion in a 2-1 home defeat to Walsall in the Checkatrade Trophy.
Cole played 72 minutes for Nigel Clough's side, who travel to Accrington Stanley in Sky Bet League One on Saturday.
Callum Lang made his first Oldham Athletic start as Frankie Bunn's side lost 2-1 at home to Sky Bet League One side Barnsley in the Checkatrade Trophy.
Lang's side host Newport County in League Two on Saturday.
Finally, Luke Burgess continued his good progress with Barrow, playing 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw at Hartlepool United.
