EARLY TEAM NEWS

WIGAN ATHLETIC

Dan Burn remains unavailable but has started to step up his recovery and will be out running next week, whilst Michael Jacobs and Darron Gibson returned to training this week, the latter for the first time since the opening day of the season against Sheffield Wednesday at the DW Stadium.

One man who will definitely miss out on Latics' trip to Griffin Park is Gavin Massey. The forward, who started the season in great form, underwent surgery early this week following the hamstring injury he picked up on Latics' last visit to the capital against Queens Park Rangers late last month.

Samy Morsy, who had a slight complaint after Latics' victory against Rotherham United last time out, is cleared to feature against the Bees, whilst Joe Garner is expected to feature in the squad following his cameo debut in the final minutes of the 1-0 win.

International trio Will Grigg (Northern Ireland), Reece James (England U20) and Antonee Robinson (USA) all returned to training during the latter part of the week.

Grigg scored during his substitute appearance in Northern Ireland's 2-1 UEFA Nations League defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina, before a 65-minute stint in their 3-0 win against Israel, whilst Robinson ended his international campaign with the match-winning assist in USA's 1-0 win against Mexico.

James played the full 90 minutes of England U20's 3-1 defeat to Netherlands at the start of the week.

BRENTFORD FC

Bees boss Dean Smith told brentfordfc.com that he has a clean bill of health following the international fixtures, with positive news of a return to training for long-term injury Rico Henry, who has been out since October 2017.

Early front-runner for the Sky Bet Championship golden boot, Neal Maupay is available for selection following his three-match ban for violent conduct, with time on the sidelines allowing him to recover from a slight injury.
