Wigan Athletic defender Chey Dunkley says Latics applied their gameplan well at Norwich City and were disappointed to not take a point back north with them on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking post-match to iFollow Latics, Dunkley said:
“I think we applied our gameplan really well; the gaffer wanted us to keep high so we could press them, because they’re a possession-based team.
“To come off and lose that game was disappointing. We need to make sure we pick ourselves up quickly because we have a game on Tuesday now and then on to Saturday at Preston.
“It’s like the Brentford situation; we lost there and we have opportunities to make it a good week still so hopefully we can get points on the board on Tuesday and Saturday and turn this around into a good week.”
And Dunkley was keen to enforce to his teammates and supporters that they can’t get too down-hearted by defeat.
“It was end-to-end at times and we had to defend and put ourselves on the line, it’s disappointing to take but we won’t beat ourselves up and we’ll be ready for Swansea,” Dunkley continued.
“We can be very critical sometimes – we always will be after losses – and we will always be critical of our performance and wonder if we could have effected the game more and put the goalkeeper under more pressure than we did but that’s the nature of the game, we won’t do everything right – we have won games and not done everything right but because we have won it is covered.
“We won’t get down, we have an important game Tuesday and we will bounce back as soon as possible.”
