Reece James remains humble about his Goal of the Season contender in Latics' 2-2 draw at Bristol City.

  • Chelsea loanee hit a sure-fire Goal of the Season contender in Latics' 2-2 draw.
  • Anthony Pilkington scored late on to equalise and earn a crucial point.

Speaking to iFollow Latics after the late drama at Ashton Gate and Anthony Pilkington's equaliser, opening goal scorer Reece James, whose effort was a stunning solo run and strike, explained his Goal of the Season contender...

"I haven’t scored many goals this season, but I’m happy to get another one and help get the team to where we want to be.

"I just saw space and didn’t really know what else to do, so I just thought I’d drive, drive and then the opportunity was on to shoot.

"If the opportunity is on then why not? I felt like it was on, and am glad it went in."

Turning his attention towards the point claimed late on, James continued:

"It’s massive to come to a place like this, away, and pick up a draw. Our away form hasn’t the best of recent and we’ve glad to get a point. We feel, potentially we could have won the game, but have to take what we got and move onto Wednesday.

"If we’d lost, we’d have been looking up and it causes another challenge, but if we try and stick in there together as a team we can give it our best shot."

On Latics' trip to Hull City this coming Wednesday, James added:

"We’re preparing for that game now. We go there to win, we need a few results to secure our safety and I believe we can do it.

"By the time you go into every game you don’t remember the form, at the end of the day it’s just another game in a different stadium. You just have to take it as the game goes."
