The gaffer previews the first of Latics' Easter weekend fixtures, a trip to promotion chasing Leeds United.

  • iFollow Latics - Paul Cook's Leeds United preview.
  • "We want to do justice for our travelling supporters." - Paul Cook.
  • The gaffer gives an update on squad availability ahead of the trip to Elland Road.

Speaking to iFollow Latics at the Wigan Athletic Training Centre on Thursday morning ahead of his team's trip to Elland Road to face Leeds United, Latics boss Paul Cook said he's very much looking forward to the test that awaits...

“It’ll be a fantastic occasion, a fantastic game. It’s great to see a club like Leeds doing so well.

“The crowd is their friend, the atmosphere at Elland Road has been that way and always will be.

“For us, it's totally a different story in terms of going across tomorrow, and wanting to do justice for our fans and our travelling supporters.

“It’ll be a tough game for us. We are under no illusions of that but it's one I am very much looking forward to.”

Following on from Sunday’s 1-1 draw against the league leaders, the Cook continued:

“The points are important for everyone and every game in the division tomorrow probably carries something.

“So, for our lads who performed so well on Sunday, against a very strong Norwich side, it was a disappointment to not win the game again. It’s big and them results are massive.

“You see with VAR at the minute, ‘what would have VAR done with Leon Clarke’s goal?’ I would have given it as a goal! I am only joking but that’s football.

“It’s a game I am looking forward to. People who know us, know we don’t travel in fear, our record isn’t the greatest on the road.

“But our respect for the opposition is good, and certainly our hopes and pursuits of winning the game are very strong.”

With two games in the space of four days, the gaffer provided us with a fitness update:

“All of the lads are fit, with all due respect Powelly was fit last week, Josh Windass, they are all fit.

“Powelly obviously felt his hamstring after the Hull game, which we have now given him full-time to get ready and get him over the line. Danny Fox, is not going to make the trip."
