Our youngest ever play as a 15-year-old in the Checkatrade Trophy in 2017, 17-year-old midfielder stepped up for his first ever league appearance in a Wigan Athletic shirt on Saturday afternoon.
The England Under 17 international was a late substitute in Latics' 1-1 draw against Birmingham City at St. Andrew's alongside his Under 18 team mate Joe Gelhardt. After the game, Weir said:
"We've really worked hard for it and I'd like to thank all of the staff at the Academy and build on from this.
"You never know what's going to happen, so you just have to keep yourself ready. I waited patiently for my chance and took it, so I'm very happy.
"I definitely have to kick on from here, to get my league debut is a great achievement but now it's about being ready for every chance that comes my way.
"Even though we're safe, we still had two games to go before today, so it was important to try and win or get a positive result by playing hard.
"We've been involved with the first team in the cup and in training, but now it's about continuing to work hard and try and get more chances next year."
