KICK-OFF 6:30PM

Latics' Under 18s travel to Exeter in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup final on Tuesday, with Peter Murphy’s side aiming to win their third trophy of this campaign.

Murphy’s Lancashire FA Youth Cup winners are looking to bounce back from their second league defeat of the season against Walsall FC, with Latics’ young charges falling to a narrow 1-0 defeat at Christopher Park.

The defeat ended a run of four consecutive victories in the EFL Youth Alliance, with impressive results against Port Vale (5-0), Morecambe (5-0), Blackpool (6-2) and Bury (2-0).

Though, Latics will still be full of confidence after a stellar 2018-19 campaign, winning the Youth Alliance title comfortably and the Lancashire FA Youth Cup for the second consecutive season, following a 5-2 victory over local rivals Preston North End.

Latics have had an impressive run leading up to the EFL Youth Alliance Cup Final, finishing top of their group with victories over Chesterfield (3-2), Accrington Stanley (5-0), Bradford City (3-1) and Morecambe (5-0), before edging out Lincoln City (1-0) in the Quarter-Final.

An impressive 2-0 victory over Bury FC at Carrington training ground in the area final confirmed Latics’ place in the national Final, courtesy of goals from Will McGuffie and England youth international, Joe Gelhardt.

Meanwhile, Exeter City have also proved to be an impressive outfit, with a hard-fought 2-1 win against Southend United in the quarter-final, before cruising to other victories against Swindon Town (2-0), Bristol Rovers (4-1) and Northampton Town (2-1).
