EFL YOUTH ALLIANCE

Recently crowned EFL Youth Alliance Champions for the 2018-19 campaign, Latics will be hoping to continue their unbeaten run in the league this season as local rivals Preston North End come to Christopher Park.

A victory against Bury FC on Tuesday afternoon confirmed the inevitable, with MacKenzie O’Neill’s double clinching the title for Peter Murphy’s side with four games to go.

The victory was Latics’ fourth on the bounce, with other impressive wins over Port Vale (5-0), Morecambe (5-0) and Blackpool (6-2), taking their tally to an impressive 18 wins in the Youth Alliance this season.

Murphy’s side will be looking to continue their impressive form at home with 16 goals scored in their last three outings, conceding two in the process.

The two teams last met on the opening day of the 2018-19 season in August 2018, with Latics claiming the bragging rights against their Lancashire rivals.

Despite the Lilywhites taking the lead in the first-half, goals from Victor Maffeo, Adam Long and Divin Baningime sealed the points following Brad Roberts’ opener.

Latics also face Preston North End in the Lancashire FA Youth Cup final on Saturday 20 April as part of a double-header against Nick Harrison’s side.

Preston North End will be hoping to continue their fine form in the Youth Alliance as they aim to keep the pressure on second-placed Rochdale.

Six games unbeaten including four wins has pushed the visitors up the table, with impressive victories over Rochdale (4-1), Tranmere Rovers (2-1) and most recently Port Vale (2-0).
