Football 4 Forces – Wigan Athletic Community Trust’s innovative football and health scheme for current and former Armed Forces serving personnel – will launch in Skelmersdale this weekend (Saturday 16th February 2019).
Taking place between 12pm-5pm at Digmoor Community Centre (WN8 9HR), the free event will consist of a walking football tournament, a number of exciting games and activities, military vehicles and memorabilia and information stalls, while food and drink will also be provided.
The initiative has been running in Wigan since 2015, with free sessions being held every Monday night at Robin Park Arena (5.30pm-7pm), with the programme aiming to improve the health and wellbeing of the Armed Forces community, as well as helping them to feel less socially isolated.
Football 4 Forces participants also have the opportunity to complete coaching qualifications and become volunteers for the Community Trust, while lifestyle workshops are held to raise awareness of subjects such as diet, nutrition, healthy eating and the dangers of drug and alcohol.
