Over 600 extra local under 18s and full-time students took up the offer to support Latics for FREE for the visit of Ipswich Town to the DW Stadium last weekend.
Joe Garner earned Latics a late point in front of a crowd boosted by the club’s initiative to give FREE tickets to local under 18s and full-time students.
The club contacted local schools and colleges to promote the opportunity, as well as spreading the word through our Community Trust, who work with over 12,000 people in Wigan and the surrounding areas.
Around 300 Ipswich Town supporters took advantage of the offer, with just over 1,300 under 18s and full-time students attending – an increase of nearly 1,000** youngsters.
Commenting on the initiative, Wigan Athletic chief executive Jonathan Jackson said:
“We recognise the importance of creating the next generation of Wigan Athletic supporters and we are pleased with the results of the initiative.
“We understand we cannot stand still and must continue to innovate and try different ways of attracting different demographics of supporters to Wigan Athletic.
“This isn’t the first offer of this kind and it certainly won’t be the last as we look to increase attendances between now and the end of the season for what is an important period for the team.”
