Wigan Athletic will host The Brick’s #DWStadiumSleep for the second consecutive year on Friday 5th April 2019 as the charity aim to raise money towards its main premises, The Brick Works, where people in crisis can begin to construct a new life through training and employment opportunities.
Latics and The Brick are encouraging people across the Wigan Borough to sign-up for the event at the DW Stadium, where it is hoped more than 200 people will take part to raise funds to help the charity achieve their target of £100,000 to purchase The Brick Works facility.
Those taking part in the #DWStadiumSleep will swap the comfort of their beds for sleeping bags in the East Stand of the DW Stadium for one night as The Brick aim to raise funds and awareness of their work.
The Brick support those facing homelessness, poverty or debt crisis, and provide a safe, solid building block for some of the borough’s most vulnerable people.
Ged Bretherton, Business Director at The Brick, said: “We are delighted to be able to bring this event back for a second year at the DW Stadium and we’re urging the people of Wigan and Leigh to join us for a special night as we raise awareness of the work we do across the whole borough.
“We want to thank Wigan Athletic for not only hosting the #DWStadiumSleep but also for working closely with us to fight homelessness by raising funds for The Brick Works facility so that we can continue to provide training and employment for the people who need it the most.”
During the #DWStadiumSleep, The Brick’s service users will share their stories and there will be music while a hot soup supper will be provided.
Jonathan Jackson, Wigan Athletic Chief Executive, said: “We held this event at the DW Stadium for the first time last year and it was great to see more than 100 people supporting The Brick that night and raising awareness of their work.
“We’re encouraging even more people to take part and fundraise this year to help our charity of the season achieve their incredible £100,000 target."
Anybody over the age of 13 can take part in the event, but those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Local businesses and community groups are welcome.
Participants are encouraged to raise a minimum of £100 for The Brick through fundraising. The Stadium sleep will run from 9.30pm – 6am.
