CHRISTOPHER PARK TRANING GROUND
KICK-OFF 11.00AM

Latics Under 18s host Accrington Stanley in the EFL Youth Alliance on Saturday afternoon.

Peter Murphy’s side, who remain unbeaten this season, go into the game off the back of a convincing 5-0 win over Shrewsbury Town.

Goals from Scotland youth international, Kyle Joseph (3), recently called up Northern Ireland youth international, Mackenzie O’Neil and Adam Long helped Latics record their first victory in the Youth Alliance in 2019.

Other victories have included a hard-fought 2-1 away win against Scunthorpe United, courtesy of a brace from James Berry, a 6-2 win over Hull City to progress to the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup against Liverpool and a convincing 5-0 win over Rochdale to progress to the Lancashire FA Youth Cup final.

Latics’ last game against Accrington Stanley came back in October 2018. Two goals each for Joseph and team-mate Charlie Jolley, as well as a goal for Mitchell Culshaw earned Murphy’s side a 5-0 win to make it two wins from two in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup.

Visitors Accrington Stanley sit second bottom of the North West Division table and remain without a win in their last six games in all competitions.

A 4-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool saw Stanley crash out of the FA Youth Cup, along with a recent 3-1 defeat to Rochdale in the Youth Alliance.

However, they can take confidence from their draws against Tranmere Rovers (1-1) and Bury (1-1), as well as their victory over Leeds United in the FA Youth Cup, knocking out the Whites after extra-time, running out 4-2 winners.

TEAM NEWS

Peter Murphy will be without England youth internationals Joe Gelhardt and Jensen Weir, who are on international duty as they take on Hungary on Sunday 10 February.

Charlie Jolley, who netted twice for the Development Squad in Tuesday’s victory against Notts County, is also expected to feature along with Scotland youth international, Kyle Joseph, who is in the Scotland under-19s squad to face Azerbaijan on Sunday 17 February.
