Wigan Athletic striker Joe Garner was pleased to make an impact from the bench as he scored a late leveller for Paul Cook’s side against his former club Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon.
Reflecting post-match with iFollow Latics, Garner said:
“We went into the game to pick up three points.
“We nicked a goal in the last minute and I think we were the better side throughout and were unlucky to not get a couple more goals but we are unbeaten in four now and we go again next week.
“I think they defended really well, were set up and organised really well and managed the game well so I was happy to get the goal, take the point and move on.
“If you are a substitute, you have to come on and make an impact and try and help the team out and I managed to do that.
“They have made a few signings in the window and they are a tough side to beat; went they went down to 10 men and sat behind the ball, it made it really difficult for us and it took us to the 90th minute to break them down.”
Latics have drawn their last three games but their unbeaten run is now stretched to four games ahead of Middlesbrough’s visit to the DW Stadium next weekend.
“We are unbeaten in four, the lads are doing really well, we keep working hard for each other; the manager, the staff and the fans and now we keep going,” Garner added.
“This league is a very tough league and to not be beaten in four games and to continuously be picking up points is what you have got to keep doing in this league.”
