WIGAN ATHLETIC V DONCASTER ROVERS
TUESDAY 29 JANUARY, KICK-OFF 1PM
Latics aim to build on their impressive start to 2019 when they host Doncaster Rovers in the Central League on Tuesday at Christopher Park, having gone unbeaten in four games in all competitions.
The Development Squad come off the back of a convincing 6-0 win over Mansfield Town last week, with goals from Joe Piggott (3), Olly Crankshaw and Under 18s' stars Joe Gelhardt and Charlie Jolley grabbing the goals in a superb win for Latics in difficult, wintery conditions.
DEVELOPMENT SQUAD GOALS: Wigan Athletic 6 Mansfield Town 0
All of the goals from Latics' thumping Central League victory over an experienced Mansfield Town side. Joe Piggott grabbed a hat-trick in wintery conditions at Christopher Park, with Olly Crankshaw amongst the goals once again alongside Joe Gelhardt and Charlie Jolley.
A 3-1 win two weeks ago at home to Morecambe sees Nick Chadwick’s side on good form, with goals from Denzel Williams, Crankshaw and substitute, Mitchell Culshaw, completing a second-half comeback, after the visitors took the lead on the 60th minute.
The victories mean Latics have scored 12 goals in their last three league games, conceding just two as they aim to climb the table to third place, four points adrift of second placed, Port Vale and five behind leaders Rotherham United.
Meanwhile, visitors Doncaster sit 7th, after going three games without a win in the Central League. A 2-1 defeat to Notts County was frustrating for Rovers, followed by a 1-1 draw against first place, Rotherham.
Senior Professional Development Phase Coach, Nick Chadwick, will be hoping to have Gelhardt available for selection, as well as Jolley, Will McGuffie and Culshaw.
Crankshaw will also be hoping to maintain his good form. The midfielder, who joined from Curzon Ashton in January, has scored two goals in his last two games for Wigan Athletic and continues to impress back on loan at the Nash in the National League North.
