Wigan Athletic's development squad won their first match of 2019 as they came from behind to beat Morecambe 3-1 at Christopher Park on Tuesday.

Kyle Hawley gave the visitors an early second-half lead somewhat against the run of play before Denzel Williams, Ollie Crankshaw and Mitchell Culshaw struck to give Nick Chadwick's side the win.

Morecambe were thankful to goalkeeper Ollie Jumeau that Latics didn't take in a first-half advantage as he pulled off a string of fine saves to deny Latics' forwards.

First, trialist Conor McKendry saw an effort saved from distance before Kyle Joseph had a close range header somehow kept out by Jumeau.

Crankshaw had a couple of opportunities of his own as the half wore on too, but he was denied by the stopper.

Early in the second half, Latics were given a warning sign when Owen Evans had to amke a smart save from Calos Mendes Gomes before Williams made a goalline clearance.

And soon after Hawley nipped in to head home at the back post and give the visitors a surprise lead.

Latics' three goals came quickly in response, though, as Williams levlled with a powerful header from a Crankshaw corner.

Crankshaw, who scored for Curzon Ashton at the weekend, got Latics' second with a sensational finish from the edge of the area before his replacement from the bench, Culshaw, tucked home the third after good play from trialist Patrick Webber.

Latics: Evans; Golden, Williams, Webber (T), Galvin (Mbayo (T) 71), McKendry (Merrie 59), Perry, Burgess, Crankshaw (Culshaw 76), Piggott, Joseph.
Subs: Perrin, McGuffie.
