The latest fitness and injury news ahead of Latics' trip to West Bromwich Albion in the Emirates FA Cup.
- Emirates FA Cup Team News - West Bromwich Albion v Wigan Athletic.
- Gavin Massey's injury weeks rather than months.
- Nick Powell and Michael Jacobs making good progress in training.
Speaking to iFollow Latics at the Wigan Athletic Training Centre ahead of his side's Emirates FA Cup third round trip to West Bromwich Albion, assistant manager Leam Richardson gave updates on Gavin Massey, Nick Powell and Michael Jacobs, as well as hints towards the squad travelling to the Hawthorns.
"It's been great to see Nick and Crackers back out there again this week," Richardson began.
"They're making good progress and naturally we've missed them both because they were key players last season and earlier this season.
"We're missing Gavin (Massey) again now after he pulled up on Tuesday, but we're talking weeks rather than months like last time."
On Saturday's team against the Baggies, Richardson continued.
"We'll field the strongest possible team that we believe will get the result. It's (the FA Cup) not too much of a distraction for us, especially as we're playing a team from our division.
"We've been monitoring a few players daily because of the tough period over Christmas with travelling and the games, but it's been a good working week and we've allowed certain players to rest."
When asked if any of Latics' younger players will be involved on Saturday, Richardson added:
"It's unlikely because our young players have had a tough period themselves in terms of fixture build-up."
Returning loan players Jamie Walker and Callum Lang are both cup tied, having already played in the competition on loan at Peterborough United and Oldham Athletic respectively.

WEST BROMWICH ALBION
As reported by the Express and Star, Darren Moore is weighing up his options ahead of the third round tie, saying:
“We’ll make decisions accordingly. It’s a very important game to us and we’ll be preparing in detail to try and get a result and respond to defeat.”
Moore's options were extended this week with the addition of defender Mason Holgate on loan from Everton, as well as 21-year-old central defender Jack Fitzwater who has returned from his loan spell with Walsall and is expected to feature before returning to the Saddlers for the second half of the season.
Midfielder Jake Livermore will be absent for the next four matches through suspension, whilst Dwight Gayle and Ahmed Hegazi won't be rushed into returns from injury.
