Striker Charlie Jolley praises his U18 team mates after their 6-2 victory at Hull City.

  • Latics' leading U18 marksman netted twice in Latics' 6-2 win at Hull City.
  • Jolley has 22 goals in all competitions so far this season.

Speaking after Latics' impressive 6-2 victory away at Hull City in the FA Youth Cup, leading youth team goal scorer Charlie Jolley heaped the praise on his team mates around him for their sensational unbeaten season so far.

Jolley, who now has 22 goals so far this term, scored twice against the young Tigers at the KCOM Stadium, an early celebration for his 18th birthday the following day.

“It was a nice early birthday present I suppose, but it was good to score two and help the team, we dug in and deserved the victory and could have had a few more on another day.”

“I think the fact that we’ve not been beaten yet this season shows how hard we're working as a group. We’re looking forward to the next round of this (the FA Youth Cup) and then Scunthorpe (in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup) on Saturday, as well as to keep on pushing in the league so our confidence is very high as a result.”

Joe Gelhardt scored a hat-trick in Saturday's victory and also provided Jolley's second, a team mate the striker says he relishes playing with every week.

“He (Joe) set’s me up all the time so it’s great, we’ve played together for a few years now, so we know each other’s games and we link up very well.

“He scores, he assists, holds the ball up and never stops running so it’s good to play with someone like him and Divin (Baningime) too.

“We’ve got many strikers. James Berry was injured so he didn’t make the bench, but we took our chances and we’ve got to with the talent that we have amongst the group of players.”
