HEAD-TO-HEAD LEAGUE

Wigan Athletic v Aston Villa Head to Head

Our first league meeting with Aston Villa came back in October 2005 and formed part of our best ever Premier League run of victories. An Aaron Hughes own goal and a perfect Alan Mahon strike from distance earned a 2-0 win at Villa Park.

A similarly impressive Jimmy Bullard goal and a double from Henri Camara helped Latics to a 3-2 victory in the reverse fixture at home in April 2006.

EARLY TEAM NEWS

Speaking to iFollow Latics ahead of his side's Sky Bet Championship fixture against Aston Villa at the DW Stadium on Saturday, Paul Cook said he's ready to hand new signing Anthony Pilkington his debut following the forward's move from Cardiff City earlier in the week.

"Anthony Pilkington has trained with us this week and he'll be coming straight into the team. We've needed a lift in our team lately and he's a great option and I'm delighted to have him here.

"We've also got Michael Jacobs back with us now and he'll be involved in the squad against Aston Villa.

"Add to that the fact that Nick Powell will be training on Monday and Gavin Massey isn't too far behind, there are signs of the rain stopping."

Latics will also be able to call upon captain Samy Morsy, who missed out on the Emirates FA Cup third round against West Bromwich Albion with a tight hamstring, and Darron Gibson, who was a late withdrawal from the team last weekend.

Antonee Robinson continues to make progress in his recovery, but is only expected to return next month.

Aston Villa will be without Jack Grealish, Axel Tuanzebe and goalkeeper Orjan Nyland for the trip to the DW Stadium, with midfielder Henri Lansbury a doubt.

New signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Kortney Hause, will be available following his arrival earlier in the week.
